Farms, lakes, preserved landscapes, active commercial corridors and some of Sussex County’s best outdoor recreation—all within a township distinct from neighboring Andover Borough.
Andover Township combines rural landscapes, farms, lakes, preserved land, residential neighborhoods and two important commercial corridors. Although many local addresses use “Newton” or “Andover” mailing names, the township is its own municipality with its own government, police department, land-use planning and recreation system.
The state park is headquartered in Andover Township and encompasses more than 6,000 acres. Lake Aeroflex, Gardner’s Pond, White’s Pond and Twin Lakes support fishing and paddling, while extensive rail-trails and single-track trails support hiking, cycling, horseback riding, skiing and snowshoeing.
New Jersey’s deepest natural lake is within Kittatinny Valley State Park. The lake supports fishing and boating; swimming is not permitted.
The township’s 171-acre recreation park includes a major playground, ball fields, soccer, tennis, basketball and pavilion/picnic facilities.
A township trail system links preserved landscapes and complements the Sussex Branch, Paulinskill Valley and Great Valley rail-trail networks.
The state-owned airport inside Kittatinny Valley State Park supports general aviation and forest-fire suppression operations.
Farmstead Golf & Country Club and Newton Country Club both operate within Andover Township.
Andover Township’s 2026 Buy Local guide highlights an unusually strong farm network, including long-running family farms, farm stands, pick-your-own operations and the SAgE agricultural incubator on Route 206. The Township actively promotes buying local as part of its sustainability work.
